Please read!

I want to first of all sincerely apologize for not posting anything on here or on my youtube in a very long time. Please have patience with me. Here's my plans for the next week or so of working and updating:

  • updating and transferring some things on my blog
  • updating, remodeling, and creating an official HouseOfBearHugs facebook, twitter, pinterest, and possibly google+ (possibly because I'd have to do a ton of remodeling)
  • making a whole new email to either transfer all my blog + business accounts onto orr transfer my personal stuff to
  • definitely some new youtube filming
  • and whatever else I happen to think of

So yeah, please stay patient I'll hopefully be back up soon!!

7 Ways to Reduce Your (or your child's) Risk of Headlice-BTSWK

Hey! Sorry that I missed last week, I missed it on my YouTube as well, I'm still trying to work on configuring things and getting posts set up ahead of time. However, today I have a little post I though would be of use to y'all. (this is the first post of my BTSWK-back to school with Ki-series, since head lice gets more common around school time.)

Head lice are nasty little critters, and when you or your child gets them it can become an extremely difficult problem. Around here, head lice were always common in elementary school. Letters home about head lice being in the classroom or grade were pretty common. And since I had very long hair I've definitely had my fair share of head lice cases. They're awful, I know. Since school is coming so here are 7 simple tips to reduce your risk of head lice (with one bonus one that if you're older trying to prevent lice-not necessarily one for younger children or for all people).

1. BE AWARE

One of the most simple and best working tips I can give you is to simply be aware. If you or your child starts itching their head a lot more all of a sudden, be sure to check for lice. Know if other kids in your child's vicinity have lice. Now, I'm not saying close your kid off from kids that may have head lice, just know to check their head.

2. CHECKING FOR LICE

Check your head has been mentioned many times, and it’s definitely a simple way to know when someone has head lice, but how do you do that? You know what dandruff is, those little white flakes or dots in the hair. Lice eggs look almost identical to small bits of dandruff, but lice eggs are attached around the hair strands and will not be easily brushed off. The most common places for head lice are above your ears and on the back of your head. To most efficiently check, have someone else part your hair where the itching is most common and look for lice eggs. Be sure to try to take off any possible lice eggs, because if they just fall off they are dandruff, not eggs.

3. SHARING ITEMS

Many people, especially children, think nothing of sharing hats, jackets, hair brushes, hair ties, etc. However this is a habit that can be the one difference between being lice free and having head lice. Make sure your child knows if they share hair ties to either have the other person keep it, or throw it away after. Hair ties are surrounded by fabric, which can get lice or lice eggs attached when used. Also be sure to wash jackets or sweatshirts that have been shared with someone, as well as hats. When kids share hair brushes at sleepovers (which is pretty common), you either need to completely clean out the brush of hair afterwards or get a new one (it may seem extreme, but it’s very easy to get head lice after sharing a hair brush).

4. CLEAN OUT HAIRBRUSHES

When hair is collected in the hairbrush it holds all the hair styling product, lint, and things that were in the hair. It's a good idea to clean the hair out of your hairbrush at least once a week, if not more. This keeps your brush from getting those product deposits that can result in having to get a new one, and helps keep you from getting head lice all over again from an earlier experience or other person.

5. REPLACE HAIR ACCESSORIES

Hair brushes should definitely be replaced at least every three months. The average hairbrush is usually around 5 USD, which really isn't much to spend every couple months to help keep your hair from getting infested. Also, be sure to get rid of hair ties that you've used too much, when they have lots of hair hanging off of them or when you can see the rubber band inside, you should think about getting some new hair ties. They aren't that expensive either.

6. CLEAN BED SHEETS

Cleaning bed sheets every month or less (a month is stretching it) will not only reduce the risk of head lice or re-infestation, it's just a good thing to do.

7. MAYO

If you already have head lice, a simple way to get rid of it (without cutting off all of your hair) is mayonnaise. Mayo is very inexpensive, and all you need for this is some plastic wrap, a shower cap, and mayo. Put the mayo in your hair (it's easier to have someone else do this for you), making sure to be extremely thorough on your roots, and put your hair in a shower cap. Then wrap plastic wrap around it tightly, making sure all your hair is covered. Leave this in overnight and wash out in the morning. Be sure to get new hairbrushes, hair ties, and clean your sheets & pillowcases before using them again. It's a life saver.

BONUS:

Also, the chemicals in hair dyes typically kill any lice or knits in your hair. Just saying

Hope you guys enjoyed this and it will help some of you, more back to school themed posts to come (comment any suggestions).

My Guitar is Fixed!!!

Hey guys it's ki, I originally had a different post idea for today but I haven't fully finished the concept sooo it will most likely be up next week. But, I actually have a really exciting post for me because....

MY GUITAR IS FIXED

So a while back my Grampa got me an acoustic guitar for my birthday, and I was super excited. That day (or a few days later) one of my friends was over and when I was working on finishing up something on my computer in another room, he started tuning my guitar. While tuning he accidentally broke one of my strings, and so since then I had a broken string (I had gotten a new set of strings but me being space out me totally cut them all to the wrong lengths and they were unusable). Probably about a month ago my mom ordered me a set of strings off of Wish (it's an online shopping app that has really cool stuff pretty cheap, although it takes a long time to ship) and they came in a week or two ago. So the other day I rode up to my dad's and grabbed my cutter pliers to cut the strings with and when I got home I put the new strings on. I'm super happy that I got them and put the new set on my guitar. Anyways this was just sort of a little story because I was really happy about it, if you'd like a tutorial post on how I change out my strings (without a string winder, peg pullers, or any actual guitar tools) then go ahead and leave a comment asking for one. Thanks for reading, love y'all stay amazing, stay you, and I will see you next week!!
(PS if you didn't know, I have a new video up on my YouTube too! Go check it out, and if you came from my YouTube leave me a comment telling me, I'm curious who will.)

Have a lovely day

New Books!

Lately I've been going to my town library a LOT more often, in the first couple weeks of summer I've already completed four books. So I figured I could give any readers some suggestions for good book series to read (I prefer to read series, it keeps me busier longer. But if you'd like some single books just send me an email or comment on this post, I'll give some).

Firstly is the series I'm currently reading, one of my favorites. This series is called the Ember series (I believe, I'm not quite sure the series name), by Jeanne DuPrau. The first book is called The City of Ember, and there are four books in total (City of Ember, The People of Sparks, The Prophet of Yonwood, and The Diamond of Darkhold). These stories are science fiction novels that take place in a post-apocalyptic United States. Each book is approximately 300 pages long, and they're honestly not very challenging reads. I've loved the first book for many years until I discovered that it was a series, and the rest of the books have me just as captured. To sum things up, the first two books (Ember and Sparks) follow two pre-teens as they find a way into the post-disaster world from the place they have lived in for generations (250+ years). Sparks tells the tale of what happens after they take their townspeople into the world and find a small town. Yonwood actually serves as a prequel to the first two books, telling a tale of a girl in a town in the US that had "visions of the future" from what they believe to be God. It ends telling how Ember began and tying the very end of the book in to the beginning of Ember. Then finally there's Darkhold, which I haven't completed but continues the story of the people of Ember.

Another wonderful series I started (and haven't finished because the town library does not own any of the series so I'm buying the rest of the books myself) is the Land of Stories series by actor, singer, author, and producer Chris Colfer (he played Kurt Hummel in Glee). This series interested me most because it takes average pre-teens of this time into the fairy tales we've known as children. It adds creative insight and add-ons to the fairy tales and characters I love from famous tales like Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White, and more. There are currently (to my knowledge) 4 books released and a 5th coming out soon (don't take my word for it). I absolutely love these and would recommend these to anyone that loved fairy tales as a child or currently loves fairy tales, the first book in the series is called The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell.

Since those are the only series I'm currently working on, go check them out! I absolutely love both of them. Have a great day and keep on reading lovelies!!!!! (PS all posts are now on Mondays)

The New Setup

I did it!! I've finally configured my blog to my satisfaction, and boy did it take a lot of stuff. I hope y'all like it, I was really nervous about the summary part because it involved configuring the HTML template of my blog and although I enjoy coding, I usually mess up at least a little while doing it. Thanks to Stephanie from over at thesepaperhearts.com -her tutorial was the one that I actually understood and succeeded with.

I love y'all look forward to new posts soon!!
